The VibeStack Weekly — Issue #002

Week of October 19, 2026 · AI tools for builders, vibe coders & indie game devs

AI 3D got editable, 2D sprites got consistent in 8 directions, and Roblox Studio's texture generator went 4K PBR. Here's what shipped Oct 12–19, each item checked against the maker's own page.

🧊 Meshy Edit: change one part of a 3D model with a prompt

Launched Oct 16. Circle a part with the Lasso (or paint it with the Brush), describe the change in a sentence (plus up to 5 reference images), and Meshy makes a new model in about a minute while the rest stays as it was. The original is kept. It runs on a new in-house Meshy model, is open to all registered users, and costs 20 credits per edit (refunded if it fails). Limits in v1: it changes geometry only (texture and color editing come later), and it works on high-poly drafts made with Meshy 6 or Meshy 7.1. Uploaded models, rigged/animated models and separated parts aren't supported yet. Game-dev use: keep a finished character and spin off variants by swapping one prop or accessory.

🧭 Ludo.ai Directional Sprites (beta)

Launched Oct 15. Describe a character (or bring an image), and Ludo builds a rigged 3D model, draws it in one of 14 2D styles (retro pixel art to watercolour to PS1-style 3D) and renders animated sprite sheets in up to 8 directions. Because every view comes from the same model, outfit, proportions, scale and floor line match. Promo pricing: 1 credit per sheet (8 for a full set) plus 5 credits (Prop) or 16 (Hero) for the model, and previews are free. Exports include a TexturePacker-format JSON for Phaser, PixiJS and Cocos2d. It's also in Ludo's API and MCP. Two days earlier (Oct 13) Ludo shipped Hydra+, an animation model that keeps fine sprite detail sharp, plus a New Direction mode that re-renders an existing animation facing another way.

🧱 Roblox Studio: 4K PBR texture generation (beta)

Announced Oct 16. Studio's texture generator gets a Quality mode: 4K PBR textures with color, roughness and metalness maps in about 2 minutes, next to Fast (1K color-only, about 30 seconds). Find it under Model > Texture, by right-clicking an object > Generate > Texture, or with /generate_texture in Assistant. It works on multi-part meshes. No normal maps or transparency yet; Roblox says keeping original UVs and normal-map support are coming.

🖥️ Effigy 0.1.0: an open-source, fully local asset pipeline

First public release on GitHub, Oct 14. A sentence or picture becomes a textured, cleaned-up, UV-unwrapped, PBR-baked, auto-rigged and animated 3D model, plus sprite sheets and pixel art, with export to Godot, Unreal, Unity, the web and 3D printing. Nothing goes to the cloud. MIT license (its Blender scripts are GPL-3.0), and the dev says every bundled model allows commercial use of outputs. Catch: Windows 11, an NVIDIA RTX 40/50 card with 16 GB VRAM (12 GB is best-effort), 32 GB RAM recommended and 70–160 GB of disk. It's a brand-new solo project, so treat it as experimental.

🔊 ElevenLabs Instant Soundtracks

Launched Oct 15. Upload a video and get an original score plus sound effects placed at the right timestamps; the SFX arrive as separate layers in ElevenCreative's Music Video Editor. Also in ElevenMusic and the API (add_sfx, separate_tracks, use_audio_as_reference); with separate_tracks=true you get music and SFX as separate files. Up to 10 videos, 200 MB and 10 minutes per request. Best fit for game devs: trailers, devlogs and store-page videos, not adaptive in-game audio.

🧑‍💻 Coding agents, IDEs & app builders

VS Code 1.142

Released Oct 14. Canvases (preview) let you work with agents beyond chat; you can move a chat to another folder or a new Git worktree without losing history; the model picker was redesigned (Copilot and bring-your-own-key models, effort levels, context windows); and admins can enforce agent sandboxing and permission policies.

Codex CLI 0.163.0

Released Oct 15. Send a follow-up while Codex is responding to steer it right away, search /config, run independent read-only tools in parallel, set a leader key in /keymap, and restart the background server from /daemon.

Cursor: Origin App Marketplace

Oct 13. Origin, Cursor's source-control platform, now connects to 20+ apps (Cloudflare, Netlify, Vercel, Sentry, Linear, CodeRabbit and more) and the marketplace is open to public submissions. Cursor's newest changelog entry also adds shareable interactive canvases from cloud agents, an Environments API (beta) and cloud environments of up to 300 repos. That entry isn't dated on Cursor's page; the third-party tracker Releasebot dates it Oct 16.

🏆 Tool of the week: Ludo.ai Directional Sprites

Why we picked it: getting one character to look the same in 8 directions is the grind of every top-down and isometric 2D game. Rendering every view from one rigged 3D model is the right way to solve it, and at the promo price a full 8-direction sheet set costs 8 credits.

Honest notes: it's a beta and we haven't put it through a full production test yet, so this pick is based on Ludo's docs and examples. The animation presets are humanoid moves only; creatures, spells and effects need a still pose plus the Sprite Generator. The "rendered from 3D" look may not match a hand-drawn art style, so use the free previews before you spend credits. Promo pricing won't last forever, and check Ludo's terms for commercial use on your plan.

Alternative: PixelLab if you want true pixel-grid art with 4/8-direction rotation.
