Pixel art is unforgiving: one stray anti-aliased pixel ruins a sprite. Here's how to use AI for pixel art without the mess.
PixelLab is built specifically for game pixel art. It generates characters and rotates them into 4 or 8 directions, animates them with skeleton-based animation, makes tilesets and inpaints fixes. You can use it in the browser, inside Aseprite (v1.3.7+, and the Aseprite trial can't run extensions), or from your AI coding agent via MCP. PixelLab has a free trial (40 fast generations, then a few slower ones per day) and subscriptions from $12/month. Check pixellab.ai for current tiers.
Scenario or Leonardo.Ai can produce a pixel-art look, but the output usually isn't on a true grid. Fix it by downscaling with nearest-neighbor to the real sprite size, reducing to a fixed palette, then hand-cleaning outlines.

Yes, through an extension. It needs Aseprite 1.3.7 or later, and the Aseprite trial doesn't support extensions.
They can mimic the style, but outputs usually need downscaling, palette reduction and cleanup to become usable sprites.
